501 Valvoline’s Derrick Chavarria takes Men’s U23 Digi Valentine’s Cycling Tour

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Derrick Chavarria captured the top spot in the Men’s U23 2022 Digi Valentine’s Cycling Tour staged by the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB).

Chavarria clocked 6 hours, 12 minutes, and 24 seconds (6:12:24). Westrac Alliance’s Eric Trapp was second in 6:12:32 and G Flow’s Shawn Codd was third in 6:13:09.

Chavarria won the 3.6-mile time trial Prologue in the U23 category on Saturday morning in 7 minutes and 42 seconds, six seconds faster than Trapp who finished in 7:48. G Flow’s Tevin Chaplin was third in 8:06.

In stage two, Codd took the top spot in the 60-mile Bermudian Landing circuit on Saturday afternoon in 1:48:01. Team Cycology’s Kevin Gentle was second and independent Sherwin Requena was third. G Flow’s Jyven Gonzalez was fourth, Chavarria filed in fifth, and Codd sixth. They all had the same time as Codd.

Then, in the 102-mile Stage 3 on the George Price Highway, Boom Road, and the Philip Goldson Highway on Sunday, Gentle was the winner in 4:16:45. Chavarria was second, Gonzalez third, Trapp fourth, and Codd fifth. All had the same time as Gentle.

That was good enough for Chavarria to win the U23 Digi Tour over Trapp by eight seconds.
