By Aaron Humes: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams confirmed that overnight early this morning a second drug plane is suspected to have landed in the Graham Creek area of the Toledo District, following a landing on Monday in the area between Carmelita, Orange Walk, and Crooked Tree, Belize District.
In the case of the Carmelita landing, officers were delayed getting to the site by as much as three hours due to someone maliciously placing spikes on the road that destroyed the police vehicle’s tires.
In the second suspected landing, the pilots circled two other areas where Police were waiting before settling on Graham Creek, an extremely remote area that it will take officers up to nine hours to get to as of today.
It is evidence of increased sophistication on the part of the traffickers, the Commissioner said, matched by the determination of his men to arrest the drug problem, literally.
Police are on the hunt for the suspected traffickers in Carmelita who were not located at their homes; they do not believe the estimated 2,000 pounds of cocaine brought on the aircraft is still in the area, but continue to search for it.
While local involvement is all but confirmed, there is nothing to suggest Police involvement at this time.
