By Aaron Humes: If all the talk of redistricting has put you off registering to vote, or transferring between divisions, fear not, says Chief Elections Officer Josephine Tamai, who heads the Redistricting Task Force.
“Continuous registration and transfers will continue as per normal as any changes as a result of the redistricting exercise will not come into effect until the next general election. Once the Nation Assembly approves changes, the Elections and Boundaries [Department] is required to adjust their electoral records. Persons eligible to register are encouraged to get registered as they will not be affected by the ongoing redistricting exercise,” she explained following Tuesday’s press conference.
You must of course be a citizen of Belize or of CARICOM working in Belize and be 18 and over in order to register; permanent residents and certain other classes are prohibited from doing so.
The Election and Boundaries Department maintains offices countrywide.
