Hol Chan Marine Reserve inaugurates new station and unveils new logo

Posted: Thursday, February 24, 2022. 5:22 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Today the Hol Chan Marine Reserve unveiled its new logo as a part of the inauguration of its new Marine Station in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.

Following the launch of its new logo the Reserve’s management explained that the Reserve got its name “Hol Chan” from the Maya language meaning “Little channel” and was established in 1987. The Reserve’s management said that Hol Chan has become the symbol of conservation, protection, and biodiversity and that the logo was crafted to reflect those ideals.

“The logo uses the name that has come to symbolize the management of the organization and incorporates one of the many iconic species of the Reserve, the Southern Sting Ray. The different shades of blue represent the sky and the sea. The waves represent continuous motion, symbolizing the continuous hard work and dedication of the staff and management to maintain the ecological integrity of the Reserve, and support the community,” the Reserve’s management explained.

Attending the inauguration was Prime Minister John Briceno and Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, Andre Perez. Following the inauguration, Perez took to his Ministry’s Facebook page to offer additional words of congratulations to the reserve and the people of San Pedro.

“As we inaugurate this new marine station, we know we are increasing enforcement, surveillance and also enhancing the services we provide to our visitors at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Together we will continue to showcase the beauty of our country in a manner that is environmentally responsible but also lucrative to our hard-working people that depend on our blue space and resources for their sustenance,” Perez said.

Prime Minister Briceno said that the new station will serve to increase enforcement surveillance, and also enhance the services we provide to our visitors at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve.
