Part of stevedores’ $1.5 million ex gratia payment set aside for legal fight with Port of Belize

Posted: Thursday, February 24, 2022. 2:19 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Christian Workers Union (CWU) President Evan “Mose” Hyde noted that while the majority of the funds obtained from the Government will be distributed among stevedores in the coming days, there is an eye on the forthcoming legal fight with the Port of Belize Limited.

Therefore they have set aside a percentage of the funds to be used, and they have received legal advice from attorneys on their case. They will also get support as needed from the National Trade Union Congress of Belize and fellow unions.

Hyde also commended Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington for his favorable commentary in a local newspaper concerning the stevedores’ plight
