Planning on going to the Spanish Lookout Expo next month? Don’t forget your mask

Posted: Sunday, February 27, 2022. 5:38 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: With much anticipation building for the biannual Spanish Lookout Expo to be held March 25-26, the Belize Police Department is reminding that COVID-19 protocols, including the wearing of masks, must be adhered to.

In a recent interview, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that he will be at the expo personally to ensure enforcement; however, he is hoping that attendees will choose compliance.

“Yes, we’re going to see what we can do to police the event and we just ask that persons who goes to these events, that they comply with the provisions of the regulations, wearing your mask, practice social distance, and constantly sanitizing yourself,” Williams told Channel 7’s Jules Vasquez.

Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard also spoke on mask-wearing at the expo recently, stressing that the Ministry will not impede business but if organizers refuse to comply with COVID regulations then they will not be granted permission to hold the expo.

The Mennonite community has had several confrontations with police regarding the wearing of masks in their communities last year, one such incident resulting in the arrest of an Orange walk pastor and members of his congregation attending a church service at a time when such gatherings were prohibited by law.
