BREAKING: New COVID-19 public health regulations lift curfew, remove mandatory mask wearing in public

Posted: Monday, February 28, 2022. 6:54 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: This evening the Ministry of Health and Wellness released new COVID-19 public health regulations that, among other things, reduce the number of places where it is mandatory to wear a mask and lifts the curfew which has been in place since April 1, 2020. The new regulations take effect from tomorrow, Tuesday, March 1st.

There is no regulation regarding curfew anywhere in the new regulations, meaning it is no longer the law of the land.

According to Sub-regulation 4 (2), people shall not be required to wear a face mask or other face (nose and mouth) covering if that person is– (a) at a private residence; (b) outdoors in an open space; or (c) driving alone or driving with members of the same household in a motor vehicle.

However, it is still required to attend social events held indoors or in closed spaces such as church; weddings, and funeral services (including the wake and repast); (iv) social club event including a fraternal society, a civic association or organization or a private club and reception, as well as to access any government or statutory body office, business office or building; shops, stores, supermarkets, hardware stores, department stores, depots and any other business establishments and public transportation services.

Social distancing, however, is still required.
