Police officer and estranged common-law husband appear in court for harming each other in cross-complaint

By BBN Staff: A police officer and her estranged common-law husband were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, both charged with harming each other during a domestic dispute.

Sheminique Aranda, 25, and Elroy Gilharry, 38, both appeared unrepresented for the complaint and counter-complaint on a single charge of harm.

They both pleaded not guilty and Gilharry was offered bail in the sum of $600 plus one surety of the same, while Aranda was offered bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same, which they were both able to meet.

The prosecution did not object to their bail but asked that restrictions come with their bail, as such neither of them is allowed to interfere with each other or any of the witnesses in the case, for the duration of the court proceedings. Additionally, Gilharry was told that he will need to go to the family court and seek an intermediary between him and his two children since he is to keep away from Aranda.

They are both due back in court on April 28.

The argument which allegedly escalated into violence reportedly happened on Friday, February 25.
