By Benjamin Flowers: The leaders of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries have begun arriving in Belize for the 33rd Intersessional Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting to be held in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, on March 1-2 and then the CARICOM and SICA Leaders’ Summit on March 3.
President of Suriname Chandrikapersad “Chan” Santokhi, arrived in Belize today along with his delegation which includes his Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation (BIBIS) Albert Ramdin.
Prime Minister of the Bahamas Philip Brave Davis arrived yesterday along with his delegations which included Minister of Foreign Affairs and Public Service Fred Mitchell, Minister for Grand Bahama Ginger Moxey, Parliamentary Secretary to Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation John Pinder II, and High Commissioner to CARICOM Leslia Miller-Brice.
Prime Minister John Briceno, who assumed the rotating presidency of CARICOM in early January, will chair both meetings. The regional leaders are expected to discuss matters impacting the region such as climate change, COVID-19, and regional security.
