By BBN Staff: Police have detained one man in connection with a shootout in Belize City on Saturday night.
Just after 7:30 p.m. area residents on Nurse Finley Crescent and its neighboring T Street reported shots fired in the area.
The situation then turned into a full shootout, when the initial person being shot at began returning gunfire.
Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Fitzroy Yearwood explained that initial investigations revealed that the shooting was gang-related.
“It’s an apparent rivalry between members of the Nurse Finely Faction and the T Street Faction,” Yearwood said.
One person has since been detained and has been charged with discharging a firearm in public, but his identity has not been released as yet as several other charges are pending.
Yearwood said that police response to such incidents are being increasingly efficient, and hopes are that the level of rapid response will serve as a deterrent for future incidents.
