Jealous man charged with stealing ex-girlfriend’s phone; claims he was emotional after seeing her with another man

By BBN Staff: A Belize City man is out on bail after being charged with stealing his ex-girlfriend’s phone.

Allegations are that on February 25, Clifford Lopez approached the complainant on Hicatee Street and took away her cell phone, then made off with it.

In court, he initially pleaded guilty with an explanation, telling the court that he saw his ex-with another man and he became jealous. He said that when his emotions got the better of him he took the phone from her.

When asked by Magistrate Khiana Gordon if he intentionally took the phone, Lopez said “no” and changed his plea to not guilty.

He was offered bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same, which he was able to meet.

Lopez is due back in court on April 21.
