By BBN Staff: A Belizean boat captain was the victim of an armed robbery at sea over the weekend.
Jose Luis Eguizbal, 29, told police that on Saturday, February 26, he was about 3 miles from the English Caye Channel when a dark blue, 21-foot skiff approached him.
There were four men armed with guns in the skiff and they took lobsters from Eguizbal, which were marked and valued at about $800, conch valued at about $5,500, 36 gallons of fuel valued at $600, and a 40 Yamaha Engine valued at $9000 all to a total value of $15,900.
Police now have one known suspect detained, who tried to sell the goods, unaware that they were marked.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
