Accused murderer of Matias Alpuche pleads guilty to manslaughter, sentenced to 20 years in jail

By BBN Staff: Alexander Garcia, the person responsible for the 2020 murder of Matias Alpuche has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Garcia appeared at the Northern Session of the Supreme Court in Orange Walk, where he received his sentence following his guilty plea.

He was sentenced to 20 years in jail, but had three years deducted for his early plea, and another 10 months deducted for his time spent on remand.

Garcia’s remaining time to be spent in jail will be 15 years, 2 months, beginning as of today, March 2, 2022.

Alpuche was brutally stabbed to death on the Honey Camp Road, Orange Walk District, on Sunday, May 3, 2020. Garcia was caught days later, in a car while on the Guinea Grass Road.
