Belizeans exempt from testing for COVID-19 on return from travel

Posted: Wednesday, March 2, 2022. 11:18 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard has addressed the changes in the S.I. concerning COVID testing at the land borders and the Philip Goldson International Airport.

Under Statutory Instrument 36 of 2022, Belizeans who are coming back into the country and have proof of vaccination will not need to pay for COVID tests on re-entry.

According to Minister Bernard, speaking to Channel 5 News, “Belizeans going out of the country must be vaccinated. That remains. The only change that took effect was that now, that persons coming into the country does not necessarily have to test if you have proof of vaccination. Proof of immunization, meaning you have taken your full vaccines. So, in the case of Belizeans, it is only vaccinated persons that can leave. So, for returning, whether it is after a day or two or three or whatever days, you have been outside, you no longer need a test on return.”

The Minister added that of course, travelers must still abide by the requirements of the countries they are visiting. If COVID tests are required for entry there, this is beyond the control of Belizean regulations.
