Dr. Crispim Moreira, FAO Representative, who has been in Belize all of this week, on Thursday visited the San Joaquin Roman Catholic School in San Joaquin, Corozal, and visited Quality Shrimp Belize Limited.
On Thursday morning at the San Joaquin Roman Catholic School, he met with the principal of Mrs. Dianira Moh and Area Representative, Minister Florencio Marin, Jr. with whom he discussed the school feeding program that is to be implemented at the school.
Later he met Mr. Puwani, Director of the Quality Shrimp Belize Limited where he experienced first-hand how the shrimp facility operates.
Dr. Moreira was accompanied by personnel of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE), including Dr. Victoriano Pascual, Director of Water Management & Climate Change; Emilio Montero, Coordinator of the National Food & Nutrition Security Commission (NFNSC); Armando Aban, FAO National Correspondent; Chief Agriculture Officer Andrew Harrison.
“Over the past 15 years, FAO has consistently aided Belize in several areas including policy advice, advocacy and capacity building as well as emergency assistance and resource mobilization for the food and agriculture sector,” said the Ministry of Economic Development after a meeting with Moreira on Wednesday.
During his week-long working visit, Moreira expressed FAO’s commitment to continue its work in Belize while reviewing the progress of current FAO projects and preparations for the upcoming FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean scheduled for this year in Quito, Ecuador.
On Tuesday, he met with MAFSE Minister Jose Abelardo Mai, before meeting with key officials from several ministries, including the Ministry of Human Development, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Defence.
