Officers responding to the drug plane landing should be commended, says police commissioner

By BBN Staff: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, despite the escape of the drug traffickers that landed a narco plane in southern Belize earlier today, says that the officers that responded to the scene should be commended.

Williams noted that police resources were stretched thin when the aircraft landed in the monkey river area around 4:00 a.m. leaving only a four-man team of officers to respond on short notice to the incident.

“Four police officers responding to perhaps 20-30 heavily armed men dealing with a drug plane. It’s somewhat tantamount to sending these officers to commit suicide but despite that, they were still prepared to go and see what they could have done to intercept,” Williams said.

He said that the men behaved courageously and should be commended for their effort.

The drug traffickers successfully managed to load their illicit cargo onto boats and escape by the sea. Williams says he believes that they were headed to Mexico.
