By Aaron Humes: Belize will be the starting point for the three-country Caribbean visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Caribbean tour to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on March 19.
The Duke’s office at Kensington Palace has announced they will visit sites that celebrate Maya and Garifuna cultures, and explore Belize’s biodiversity.
The pair will also check in on the Caribbean’s response to COVID-19 and generally focus on themes close to Their Royal Highnesses’ hearts, per Kensington Palace.
A key focus of their work is the The Royal Foundation, including The Earthshot Prize, mental health, and the importance of early childhood to lifelong outcomes.
The Duke and Duchess have asked to meet a wide variety of groups, including children (they are parents to three of their own), young people and families, frontline workers, service personnel, leaders from government, business, and the charity sector as well as conservationists.
No specific locations have been shared.
The Duke and Duchess leave for Jamaica on March 22, and wind up in the Bahamas thereafter.
This will be the first royal visit to the Caribbean since Barbados’ declaration of republic status last year, and in fact the first since the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 when Prince Harry briefly visited.
