Garden City challenge the San Pedro Pirates in their own backyard on Saturday evening at 7:00 at Ambergris Stadium.
The FFB Top League match was scheduled to play in Belmopan but Garden City gave up the home field advantage and decided to play at the Ambergris Stadium to make a few more bucks, said coach Dale Pelayo.
“It’s a financial decision,” said Pelayo. “We decided to take the game to San Pedro and split the gate with San Pedro. I think we’ll be doing the same with our next game next week which will be against Altitude. We’re thinking of taking the game to Independence.”
Pelayo said fans are not showing up for games played in the Capital.
“This would have been our first game in Belmopan but looking at the games that play at the FFB Stadium, the support is minimal. People are not coming out, he said.
“They are still probably scared of the Covid situation. The Federation was charging 15 and 20 dollars and in some games you barely have 20 people paying to go watch the games. So, it’s just a financial decision to take the game and split the gate with San Pedro.”
The San Pedro Pirates were already favourites and now playing at home they have a much better chance of winning and staying in the race for first place with Verdes and Altitude. Verdes lead with 12 points while Altitude and San Pedro have nine each.
Garden City for their part are trying to come out of the rut they find themselves in. Last week’s win over Caesar Ridge, however, has put them in a better position for now with four points from four games.
