Two leading FFB clubs clash head on Sunday; Verdes against Altitude in FFB Top League

National Football Champions Verdes are taking on subchampions Altitude in the biggest game of the FFB Top League’s Closing Championship this weekend. The match is set for 4:00 pm on Sunday at the FFB Stadium in capital Belmopan.

After the San Pedro Pirates who they edged 1-0 last weekend, Verdes’ toughest competition in the FFB Top League are Altitude.

Verdes beat Altitude 2-0 in their first encounter on October 6, 2021, on goals by Norman Anderson in the 19th minute and Krisean Lopez in the 54th.

Verdes again won their second match 3-2 on December 19, 2021, but it was by far more competitive. Mexican Edwin Villeda Bernal scored two very early goals, but Altitude tied it on strikes by Luis ‘Baca’ Torres and Collin Westby before Darrel Myvett put the game away in the 57th.

Verdes are dubbing it the ‘Clash between Two Generals’ in reference to the longevity two of their defenders have exhibited at Belize top level for years: Everal Trapp for Verdes and Dalton Eiley for Altitude.

This is Altitude opportunity, if they want to make it to Concacaf, to beat Verdes and stay within reach of their goal. Anything else practically let’s Verdes get away in their Concacaf quest.

The Verdes-Altitude match will be followed by Wagiya against Caesar Ridge at 6:30 pm.
