Traffic officer apparently drowns on visit to Caye Caulker

Posted: Sunday, March 6, 2022. 5:53 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: A Belize City man, working as a traffic officer, is believed to have drowned in the Split which separates the island of Caye Caulker this morning.

According to police, Shanda Nunez and her family were socializing at the Lazy Lizard establishment in the village, overlooking the Split, along with partner Rashaad Gillett, 34.

Gillett decided to take a swim, but a few minutes later, police say people in the area started calling for help and Gillett was found floating on the sea.

CPR was unsuccessfully performed and he was pronounced dead at the Caye Caulker Health Center.
Police have confirmed no physical injuries on the body and do not suspect foul play; however, a post-mortem examination will be conducted and the matter is under investigation.
