By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Benque House of Culture is holding an exhibition on Wednesday, March 9, celebrating the great contributions of our nation builders both national and local.
On the occasion of Heroes and Benefactors Day, which this year was officially celebrated early on Monday, the Benque House of Culture is launching its exhibition on Wednesday, recognizing Belize’s Heroes, Patriots and Benefactors. The Exhibition will be featuring our two national heroes, George Cadle Price and Philip Goldson and benefactor Baron Bliss. But not leaving out Benque Viejo del Carmen, the Benque House of Culture is also paying tribute to local nation builders’
“We are recognizing key personalities who have contributed to our community,” said Benque House of Culture Coordinator Nalleli Yacab.
“David Ruiz as an author as a cultural icon, educator, and social activist; community health pioneer Nurse Margaret Juan who is the founder of the Good Shepherd Clinic in San Jose Succotz, and frontline workers whose lives were dedicated to the service of others in the health sector, Doctors Kevin and Kenneth Guerra, who passed away due to COVID-19.”
“We’re going to be displaying the biographies and milestones of these personalities.
“We’re going to be launching this on Wednesday at 3:30 pm at the Centennial Park. We want to educate and inspire others to emulate these great personalities who have been giving or have given of themselves selflessly to the communities where they live or lived.
“We feel that these people deserve recognition. They are unsung heroes,” Yacab said.
The Benque House of Culture Coordinator said that the exhibition will also be taken to the Benque Viejo del Carmen Town Hall and to schools in the Benque area.
