By Aaron Humes: Cabinet has recommended the introduction of the Cannabis Control and Licensing Bill, 2022 at the next sitting of the House of Representatives.

The bill seeks to “provide for the control and licensing of the Cannabis industry and to establish the necessary legislative framework to govern and regulate the cultivation, processing, distribution, and delivery of Cannabis products for adult use only.”

It has been separated from pending amendments to the Misuse of Drugs Act also concerning marijuana.

At present, possession of more than ten grams, sale, cultivation, and trafficking are criminalized; the regime is expected to change with these new bills.
