Prime Minister John Briceño to receive Order from Taiwan government, honorary doctorate from Taiwan university

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Prime Minister John Briceño is to receive an Order from Taiwan government and an honorary doctorate from a Taiwan university during his five-day visit to Taiwan, according to the Belize Embassy in Taiwan.

“President Tsai Ing-wen will welcome Prime Minister Briceno with military honors and a state banquet before conferring upon him the Order of Propitious Clouds with Special Grand Cordon,” said the Embassy.

Focus Taiwan said the order can be conferred on Taiwan citizens or foreign nationals. Briceño is being honoured for his role in enhancing ties between Taiwan and Belize.

The Belize Embassy said the military salute will be live-streamed Wednesday, March 9, at 10:30 am Taiwan Time (8:30 pm Tuesday, Belize time).

The Embassy also said the Prime Minister will also receive an honorary doctorate from Kun Shan University in the city of Tainan.

Prime Minister Briceño will also meet with Vice President Lai Ching-te, who will accompany him to Tainan, where Briceño will receive the honorary doctorate, according to the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

“Not often does a world leader receive so many distinctions in one official visit, and so we are extremely proud of Prime Minister John Antonio Briceño,” said the Belize Embassy.

Briceño is heading an eight-member delegation which includes his wife, the Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children Rossana Briceño; Eamon Courtenay, Minister for Foreign Affairs; Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education, Culture, Science & Technology; Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, Ambassador Jaime Briceno, and Cabinet Secretary, Ambassador Stuart Leslie.
