By BBN Staff: Tonight, one of three Belize City youths accused of the shooting murder of off-duty cop Osbourne Martinez, who was shot dead on Regent Street West on November 2, 2018 during an armed robbery at Belcove Hotel, is considering a guilty plea to manslaughter.

21-year-old Tyrique Myles is charged jointly with Glen Lopez, who is now 24, and Rayford Mejia, now 22.

At a case management conference, Myles as advised by attorney Velda Flowers consented to participate in a Goodyear hearing, where the defendant may seek an indication from the court what is the maximum sentence to be imposed if a defendant was to plead guilty. The judge is bound to give such information in open court in the presence of the defendant and to follow it if all are in agreement.

Myles’ hearing is set for April 4 before Justice Ricardo O’Neal Sandcroft; co-accused Lopez and Mejia, who is out on bail, maintain their innocence.

Trial will start in June depending on how the April hearing goes.

Constable Martinez responded to an armed robbery at the Regent Street West establishment when he was shot. All of the accused are jointly charged with robbery while Myles and Lopez were additionally charged with Kept Firearm and Ammunition without a gun license.
