By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Prime Minister John Briceño received the Order of the Propitious Clouds from the Government of Taiwan.

“My sincere gratitude and appreciation to our bilateral partner and President Tsai Ing-wen,” said Prime Minister Briceño on social media.

“The honor bestowed on me is a recognition of our partnership and of our people of Belize.”

President Tsai Ing-wen welcomed Prime Minister Briceno with military honors and a state banquet before conferring upon him the Order of Propitious Clouds with Special Grand Cordon, according to the Embassy of Belize.

Briceño was being honoured for his role in enhancing ties between Taiwan and Belize.

The Belize Embassy said the Prime Minister will also receive an honorary doctorate from Kun Shan University in the city of Tainan.

“Not often does a world leader receive so many distinctions in one official visit, and so we are extremely proud of Prime Minister John Antonio Briceño,” said the Belize Embassy.

Briceño is heading an eight-member delegation on a five-day visit to Taiwan.
