By BBN Staff: A university student pleaded guilty to possession of controlled substances, to wit 104 grams of cannabis at her Belize City home, to ensure that her friend would not have to take the rap.

Carla Rose Flores and Kelsey Karina Gamboa were jointly charged with possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply the cannabis, found during a search by police on Tuesday.

Appearing before Magistrate Baja Shoman, Flores admitted the drug was for her own personal use and that her friend Gamboa had no knowledge it was there when she visited over the holiday weekend.

Flores agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of simple possession and was fined $850 due by June 30, in default three months’ imprisonment. With the plea, the court prosecutor elected to withdraw all charges against Gamboa.
