By Aaron Humes: The Belize Electric Company Limited (BECOL) has formally announced the passing of Carlos Rodriguez, 30, who died after falling while working at Chalillo Dam last Saturday.
A statement from President and CEO of BECOL, Kay Menzies, reports, “Carlos was one of BECOL’s industrial electricians and was involved in an accident while working inside the plant building at our Chalillo Dam. He succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital despite the best efforts of his co-workers and paramedics – to whom we are forever grateful – to save his life.”
The company said it is conducting an internal investigation as well as cooperating with authorities, who so far suspect no foul play.
Menzies explained, “We are a small team at BECOL and Carlos was beloved by all. His sudden loss has left us in a state of shock and deep sadness. Carlos loved his family, and our hearts go out to his wife and infant child. Thank you to all who have reached out to our team with messages of support during this devastating time. Carlos will always be remembered with affection by us all.”
