By Benjamin Flowers: We have received reports that the Non-governmental Organization (NGO) community is currently voting to elect their new representative in the Senate.
Those contesting the position are Dr Sharmayne Saunders and Janelle Chanona, both well known in NGO circles and exemplary women in their respective fields.
The vote became necessary after former NGO Senator Osmany Salas announced on February 9 that he would be leaving the post.
Salas’s resignation became effective at the end of February, and he took up a post as the lead for Belize Project Finance for Permanence (PFP), for the World Wildlife Fund.
This is a developing story.
