By Benjamin Flowers: The Government of Belize (GOB), in collaboration with international partners, has been upgrading health facilities across the country to increase the quality of the service delivered. This week, GOB inaugurated the newly renovated Isabel Palma Polyclinic II in San Antonio Village, Toledo District, which officially attained the status of “Smart Health Facility.”
Some of the improvements to Isabel Palm Polyclinic II include the addition of solar panels, a new generator, and light fixtures, along with other infrastructure improvements.
This polyclinic is one of five health facilities in Belize being upgraded to smart health facility status, through a BZ$9,644,931.62 project which is done in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Government of the United Kingdom, and the Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization.
The design and construction works were carried out by Maheias United Concrete & Supplies Ltd. and Guerra’s Construction Ltd for the retrofitting works along with Gutierrez & Associates Architects. Cleopatra White Polyclinic, Isabel Palma Polyclinic, and Independence Polyclinic are expected to be handed over by the end of March.
