By BBN Staff: There was a shooting on the south side of Belize City on Thursday night, as the gang violence situation continues to escalate.

Police officer Mario Cardinez reported that he was on motorcycle patrol in the CET Site area of Belize City when he heard several shots being fired.

Investigations revealed that two men in the Gungulung area had opened fire on a passing car causing damage to it. It is not known whether the driver or any passenger was injured.

Damage to property, particularly vehicles, due to city shootings is becoming increasingly common in these latest shootings, as reports to our newsroom are that several vehicles have been damaged as a result of these shootings.

Notably, the vehicle of the Accountant General was shot up in a crossfire on Tuesday night at the corner of Complex Avenue and Mahogany Street.

Police Commissioner Chester Williams said in a recent interview that operations are being held daily to crack down on gang activity to protect the lives and property of the citizenry.

He also noted that police are seeking one suspect in connection with the shooting of the Accountant General’s vehicle.
