Taiwanese Vice President says Belize is an important friend of Taiwan

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Taiwan’s Vice President William Lai says Belize is important friend of Taiwan often speaking in favour of Taiwan in international organizations.

The Taipei Times said Vice President Lai made the statement at the ceremony in which Belize Prime Minister John Briceño received an honorary doctorate from Kun Shan University in Taiwan.

At the ceremony, Briceño spoke about values shared by both nations: democracy, freedom, human rights, and the rule of law. Briceño also said education was a basic human right and thanked Taiwan for the more than 500 Belizeans who have studied and are still studying in Taiwan. He said that it contributes to Belize’s development.

Vice President said he hoped that two-way educational exchanges could be enhanced while adding that he anticipated more collaboration in the fields of education, culture, agriculture, technology, infrastructure, and healthcare.

There are over 20 Belizean studying at Kun Shan University at present.
