By Aaron Humes: In her first public message since the memorial service for late husband Herbert Panton, Albert area representative Tracey Taegar-Panton confirms that she will continue to pursue leadership of the United Democratic Party (UDP).
She wrote, “I have made the decision to continue to pursue the leadership of the United Democratic Party at a Special Convention that will be convened on Sunday, March 27th, 2022. My bid to become the next UDP Party Leader is a firm commitment I made 6 weeks ago and it [is] a commitment I intend to see through. This decision is not about me. It is about serving the greater good of our Party and, more importantly, the greater good of Belize. In life there should be no ‘what ifs’.”
Taegar-Panton, who faces off with current Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow, added, “Together, we must look ahead to the future. We must walk shoulder to shoulder in this Movement for a stronger[,] more cohesive United Democratic Party and for a better Belize. I humbly ask for your continued support. Belize needs strong, competent, experienced, and compassionate leadership. THE TIME IS NOW. We owe it to ourselves and to all Belizeans.”
She also repeats her thanks to all who have offered love and support in their period of mourning, stating, “Your friendship and thoughtfulness help to lift us up.”
