Belmopan’s women bring home businesses to Governor General’s Field for Women’s Month

By Anita Nembhard-Flowers (Freelance Reporter), Belmopan: If the stalls we saw across the Governor General’s Field this past Saturday are any indication, the women of the Capital City are an industrious lot.

As part of Women’s Month 2022, the local branch of the United Women’s Group (UWG), in collaboration with the Belmopan City Council, gathered at the Governor General Field in Belmopan City, highlighting local businesses who were showcasing their products.

Second Vice President Tricia Pelayo was very excited to be a part of the mini-fair: “A lot of businesses are out here that I personally didn’t even know existed in the Garden City…networking, people, networking!”

The Belmopan UWG sold out on their finger-licking BBQ, sausage, and chicken wraps. They also had on sale handmade bags done by group members.

We sampled other local businesses present at the mini-fair such as Table of 3, selling cakes and pastries. They are located in Maya Mopan, Belmopan, and can be reached at 631-2806.

Farmed to Protection were selling local organic eggs, at $4 a dozen and $10 a crate. They can be reached at 668-8949.

Pluto’s Pastries is located at #3 Caracol Street, Belmopan City. They can be contacted at 650-3855.

Yum Yum Lounge, located in the Caribbean Villas, Piccini area, Belmopan is helmed by young and very aspiring ladies of Belmopan City. At the mini-fair, these ladies were selling locally made pastries, nachos and snacks with appetizers. They can be reached by telephone at 605-4422.

DanDan’s Jalapeno Chicken Dip located in the Floral Park area, Belmopan, is run by Shandy Garbutt and kicked off during the pandemic from her house where she sells delicious chicken dips. She can be contacted at 606-4502.

Single Women In Motherhood (SWIM), from the Maya Mopan area, Belmopan, sell souvenirs, clothes, flowerpots, and a variety of food items and can be contacted at 607-8008.
