Duo arraigned for abetment to commit murder; remanded to prison

By BBN Staff: Two men have been remanded to the Belize Central Prison following charges of abetment to commit murder in relation to the shooting of 32-year-old Albert Reid.

Today, 33-year-old, Angel Matura and 33-year-old, Floyd Wade appeared unrepresented before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser.

The allegation against them is that they purposely aided a man who has yet to be charged, in shooting Reid. Wade was additionally charged with aggravated assault with a firearm upon Albert Reid

No plea was taken from them and they were remanded until May 13.

On March 11, Reid was walking on an unnamed street in the Belama Phase 5 area when he allegedly saw Floyd Wade and the other assailant running towards him. He ran but they pursued and one of the assailants allegedly pulled a sawed shotgun from his pants and opened fire on Reid.

Those shots missed and the man allegedly received another cartridge from Matura, and after some more pursuit fired another shot, this time Reid was shot to the right thigh, right foot, and left ankle.

Reid managed to escape the ordeal, was treated for his injuries at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, and was later released.
