Belize Basketball Federation to hold elections in April

Belize Basketball Federation to hold elections on April 2, 2022, according to a BBF press release.

The BBF said on March 12 that its Executive Committee members are elected to hold office for four years and that, “as a consequence, the due date for elections of new officers will be Saturday, April 2, 2022”.

The elections were delayed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said a source within the BBF. The last elections were held on February 4, 2017, at the Sacred Heart College in San Ignacio.

The BBF has been led by president Paul Thompson, vice president Charles Ellis, secretary Julian Murillo, and committee members Frank Lord, Travis Lennan, and Keith Acosta.

The BBF said that the elections for the Executive Committee will be held at 10:00 am at the Marion Jones Stadium, Belize City on that date.

Nominations, along with written acceptance by the nominees, for the positions of the Executive Committee of the BBF, are to be submitted by member/District Associations or other interested parties in writing to the Secretary General. The BBF said the nominations should be sent by email to [email protected] by 5 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2022, and that the Secretary General will circulate all nominations to the BBF members by Monday, March 28.

The BBF noted that “full slates of candidates to fill all positions may be submitted but nominations for individual roles will be accepted” and reminded that “all retiring officers of the Executive Committee shall be eligible for re-election”.

The Belize Basketball Federation (BBF) is the governing body for the sport of basketball in the country and is recognized as such by the Federation Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) to which it is affiliated. The BBF comprises national and regional federations and associations which are its members.

The BBF’s Executive Committee is now composed of: President, Secretary General, two Vice Presidents, Treasurer/Finance Officer, three Executive Officers and 3 additional members appointed by the Regional/District Associations.
