Champs Jewel Fury open National Amateur Women’s League Championship against Sagitun Girlz at Independence

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Champs Jewel Fury start the defense of their National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) title against the Sagitun Girlz at 3:00 pm at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence on Saturday.

Four more games, three on Saturday and one on Sunday, play on the weekend as the NAWL Closing Championship kicks off.

On Saturday, the San Pedro Pirates will take on the Verdes Rebels at Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro, Bay City will visit Wagiya at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, while the Cayo Dreamers will play at home against the Juventus Girls at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.

The final game of the opening weekend will feature the Santa Elena Strikers and the Corozal United Warriors on Sunday at the Norman Broaster.

All games will play at 3:00 pm.

The Football Federation of Belize said the 11 participating clubs have been divided in two divisions based on the standings from the previous season which finished in December.

Additionally, Division A features National Champions Jewel Fury, National Subchampions Rumberas, the San Pedro Pirates, Verdes Rebels, and the Sagitun Girlz.

Division B comprises Wagiya Sporting Club Ladies, Cayo Dreamers, Corozal United Warriors, Santa Elena Strikers, Juventus Girls, and Bay City.

All teams except Rumberas will be active this weekend.

The FFB said the tournament will be played in a round-robin format which will produce a winner from each division. The winner of Division B will be promoted to Division A for the closing season and the club with the least points from Division will be relegated to Division B.
