National champs Verdes will again represent Belize in the Concacaf League

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 2-2 Altitude-Garden City draw on Saturday night gave Verdes the ticket to the 2022 Concacaf League.

The draw effectively knocked Altitude out of the Concacaf League race making the Green Machine Belize’s representative in the next Concacaf championship. With 43 cumulative points, Verdes became unreachable. Altitude have 30 points to their credit and with four games left they can now only total 42. The San Pedro Pirates with 28 points can now only make 40.

In a country that only has one berth in the Concacaf league, the team that wins the opening and closing championships qualifies with a direct ticket. However, if there are two different champions, the champion with the higher number of points in the cumulative table (points from both championships), qualifies.

As it stands, Verdes already won the FFB Top League Opening Championship and have now won the Cumulative Table. So, if any other team wins the Closing Championship, Verdes have already claimed the Concacaf ticket by virtue of winning the Cumulative Table.

Verdes can now cruise to the end. But finishing undefeated is their aim, so don’t expect them to turn off a cylinder or two. They have their goal set out ahead of them, plus they want to reach the Concacaf League better than ever before. And for that, they need to be firing from all cylinders.
