Prime Minister John Briceño: ‘We are not withholding information on gas prices’

Posted: Wednesday, March 16, 2022. 9:54 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: On February 2, 2022, the Government of Belize issued its last press release announcing a change in the price of gasoline. The price of gas has gone up several times since then; however, Belizeans had to learn about the increase at the pumps.

When confronted by the media over the issue this week, Prime Minister John Briceño said that the government is not withholding the information.

“The truth of the matter is we are not controlling the publication because you get it [the information] the minute it hits the pump,” Briceño said.

When pressed by the media for the return of the press release preceding a change in fuel price Briceno simply answered “We want many things.”

The cost of fuel has gone up around seven times this year.
