By Aaron Humes: This evening, Belize Sugar Industries Limited (BSI/ASR) executives sent their first analysis of the current crop season through to March 13, ten weeks in.
From slightly less total cane ground (396,254 tons), more sugar has been produced (41,513 tons), with roughly the same grinding rate but better production.
In BSI/ASR’s analysis, “Despite the early challenges for the 2021-22 crop season, the good weather and improving harvesting practices have positively impacted cane quality and mud in cane, this along with the programmed upgrade of Boiler 1 have resulted in enhanced factory grinding rates.” There has been, it adds, increased sugar extraction due to improved levels of sugar presence in the cane and reduced mud and other obstructions.
The all-important tons cane to tons sugar (TC/TS) ratio is about 9.5, better than last year’s figure at this mark of 10.4.
The season continues until June or July.
