“The best legal justice:” Killers of Ramon Cervantes, Sr. plead guilty in court

By Aaron Humes: On Tuesday, while his colleagues were at the House of Representatives in Belmopan, Minister of State Ramon Cervantes Jr. was in court to see three men accused of killing his father, businessman, former politician and long-time Orange Walk fixture Ramon Cervantes, Sr., admit in open court to the crime.

Before Supreme Court Justice Herbert Lord, 29-year-old, Noe Gonzalez pleaded guilty to murder while 35-year-old Mateo Pott and 26-year-old Angel Cardenas pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

“Don Ramon” was kidnapped from his cane field and killed on July 2, 2014. His body was discovered three days later in a shallow grave along the Honey Camp Road. He had been blindfolded, duct-taped and handcuffed.

The younger Cervantes of course noted to reporters that it does not bring his father back, but it is “the best legal justice that can be provided in Belize.”
