By BBN Staff: Six fishermen from Chunox Village, Corozal District, have been charged for being in possession of undersized conch.
Fisheries personnel reportedly made the bust on March 11, while searching a vessel named “Lizany”, docked adjacent to the pier on Long Caye, Lighthouse Reef Atoll. During the search authorities found a total of 493 pieces of conch which weighed less than the legally required 3 ounces.
Appearing before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this morning were Marvin Israel Patt, 29; Sanna Santiago Patt, 27; Ergil Jpsimar Patt, 31; Lerman Marty Leslie, 28; Jorge Luis Tun, 35; and 23-year-old, Elton Johan Patt. They all pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of $2,000 each plus one surety of the same amount, which they all met.
Since no one claimed the illegal fishery, the matter will go to trial with their next court date being set for April 28.
