By Aaron Humes: Representatives of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) faced the press in Belize City today to discuss the long-term arrangement it has developed with the Government as part of a strategic plan to reduce regional and international policy with the support of the U.S. Government.
CEO Alice Albright reiterated that after the MCC’s analysis of constraints to economic growth, it will support the Government in identifying and implementing projects specially targeting these constraints.
The specific funds will be developed based on the targets identified by Government but CEO in the Ministry of Economic Development, Dr. Osmond Martinez, highlighted a few of them: access to education, access to finance for micro-small-medium entrepreneurs (MSME) and ease of doing business in Belize.
While MCC completes its analysis and consultation with a wide variety of stakeholders, the Government has obtained $1.5 million for initial administrative costs and hires.
