“Our Maya Women Breaking the Bias,” says Maya Culture-Belize through their Facebook page which is used to promote all things Maya.
Recently, Maya Culture-Belize featured Dr. Jennifer Choc, who is presently the Medical Director at the Punta Gorda Polyclinic.
Maya Culture-Belize said Dr. Choc is a Maya woman who is breaking barriers.
“I embrace my Mayan culture very much: our traditions, our history, our identity, our food and music,” said Dr. Choc according to Maya Culture-Belize.
“I am proud of who I am as a Kekchi maya woman and the achievements I have accomplished so far.”
Maya Culture-Belize said Dr. Choc obtained her medical degree from the Latin American School of Medicine in Cuba after studying at the Toledo Community College.
“I hope to inspire young girls and women, especially our Mayan women, to take up the challenge and be fearless as there is so much more left to be accomplished in the healthcare field,” said Dr. Choc.
“I believe it is important to know where you come from in order to know where you are going.”
