San Pedro Pirates battle Wagiya at San Pedro on Saturday night

By Rubén Morales Iglesias:

San Pedro Pirates battle Wagiya at San Pedro at 7:00 tonight at Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro.

The Pirates are presently in the second position in the FFB Top League Closing Championship. They need to beat Wagiya tonight if they want to retain that spot as Altitude is breathing down their throats with ten points.

Having won four games, drawn one, and lost one, San Pedro has an average of one goal per game.

Wagiya, for their part, have been finding it tough this season. Several times they have been close but so far only have four points to show for their efforts. They’ve won one game, drawn another, and lost four times.

Wagiya’s biggest problem seems to be the inability to score. With only three goals in six games, they’ve got to find the net if they are to collect some points.

Though fans are now allowed at the games, the FFB is ensuring fans follow the COVID-19 protocols which have gotten lighter since the championship started. Masks are now not necessary, says the FFB but it still advises fans to protect themselves. One rule that doesn’t seem to make much sense and which the FFB has been insisting on even before the pandemic is the one that says that “No persons are to be standing (unless enroute to restrooms or to buy drinks or food)”. How does the FFB expect fans not to stand for two hours. That’s practically impossible given the nature of a game of passion. Moreover, fans all around the world are allowed to do so.
