Two brothers arrested for obstructing a police officer who was conducting a search

By BBN Staff: A pair of brothers from Belize City, one of whom is a special constable, were charged this week with obstructing a police officer who was conducting a search.

On Thursday, Police Corporal Rogelio Carrillo, was in the Iguana Street Extension area when he stopped at a yard and informed a group of men that he would be conducting a search for illegal firearms and ammunition.

That’s when Howard Meyers and Special Constable Milton Flores, approached Corporal Carrillo and told him that he would not conduct the search, they also positioned themselves to block him from carrying the search out.

Carrillo informed them that obstructing an officer from conducting his duties was an offense and told them to get into the police mobile because they would be charged. They reportedly did not comply and Myers allegedly assaulted officer Carrillo during the incident. Carrillo then radioed for another mobile for assistance and with help from more officers that men were detained and charged.

They appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where they were jointly charged with obstructing an officer. Myers was additionally charged with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.

The duo pleaded not guilty and were offered bail in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same and are scheduled to return to court on May 18.
