By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Corozal’s Bay City FC started out pumping as they drubbed Wagiya at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga in the National Amateur Women’s League Division 2 championship which kicked off on Saturday.
Bay City may be in the National Amateur Women’s League Second Division, but they mean business. That’s why they’ve signed some of Belize’s best football players, the likes of Katie Jones and Saudy Rivera who joined from National Subchampions Rumberas, Aaliyah Herbert and Shante Chacon from Jewel Fury, and Amani Alvarez from Orange Walk, just to mention a few.
They mean to fast track their way to Division 1 by the next tournament. Their first game was a clear indication that they have all it takes to get there.
Jones scored a brace in the 36th and 63rd after Herbert got things going in the 4th and Anahie Blanco hit the second in the 21st.
With the opening loss, Wagiya have their work cut out ahead of them.
The other Division 2 match between the Santa Elena Strikers and the Corozal Warriors was postponed due to what the FFB called ‘major circumstances.’
