OIRSA hands over small hive beetle traps to the Ministry of Agriculture

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The International Regional Agricultural Health Organization (OIRSA) handed over small hive beetle traps to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE).

The presentation was made by OIRSA Country Representative Fermin Blanco.

“The traps are for use in beekeeping against the small hive beetle, which can infest hives, affecting honey productivity,” said MAFSE in a social media post.

“The handing over involved a discussion with beekeepers on how to apply the traps and issues that could affect the bee population.”

According to MAFSE, beekeepers from Orange Walk who attended the handing over ceremony immediately received their traps from District Agriculture Coordinator Sergio Hernandez.

A representative from Corozal Agriculture Office received the traps to be issued to beekeepers of the Corozal District.
