Man fined $605 for beating cousin in fistfight over cellphone

By BBN Staff: Belize City resident, 35-year-old Shane Jones, was fined in court this week for harming his cousin.

Jones appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court yesterday, to answer to a single charge of harm.

He pleaded guilty to the charge, explaining to the court that he and his cousin got into a fistfight because the cousin allegedly stole his nephew’s cell phone.

The medico-legal form said he suffered from scratches to his forehead, bruises to his upper lip, and an abrasion on his toe.

For his guilty plea, the Magistrate imposed a fine of $600 plus a $5.00 cost of court which he has to pay by May 31, 2022, or face six months in jail for default.
