By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Women’s National Football Team (BWNT) defeated the Chetumal Selection 2-1 on Thursday for a second consecutive win in three days in Chetumal, Mexico.
Alisha Terry opened the score in the second half hitting the net after a corner kick. The ball hit the post and Terry smacked it in. This was terry’s second goal in Chetumal as she had scored on Tuesday night.
Alexa Cabrera tied the game 1-1 off a penalty kick for the Chetumal side.
A little later, Kaite Jones put Belize ahead 2-1 with a phenomenal shot from outside the box.
On Tuesday night (March 22), the BWNT had defeated Chetumal Selection 3-2 on Tuesday on goals by Sabrina Eiley, Alisha Terry, and Ofelia Casimiro. Alexa Cabrera and Adriana Loeza responded for the Quintana Roo Selection.
The BWNT’s games against the Chetumal Selection at the Estadio 10 de Abril in Chetumal are friendlies in preparation for the Australia-New Zealand Women’s World Cup Qualifiers against Aruba and Barbados.
Prior to the Chetumal games, the BWNT won one and lost one at Izabal, Guatemala last week.
The BWNT will face Aruba on Wednesday, April 6, in Belmopan, and will then tangle with Barbados at the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, April 12.
Though the BWNT can’t qualify to the next round of the World Cup Qualifiers as they lost the first two qualifying games, they are firm in their hopes of closing the World Cup qualifiers with better performances than the first two games.
