By BBN Staff: A Belize City man has been sentenced to a year in prison over unlicensed ammunition that police found in his home during a search.
Tyron Thomas received his sentence yesterday in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, at the conclusion of his trial.
Arresting officer PC Michael Patten testified that on September 16, 2019, at around 9:30 a.m. he and PC Shaheed Mai conducted a search at Thomas’s home on Central American Boulevard and found four bullets wrapped in a plastic bag that was in the pocket of a jeans pants.
Upon sentencing, Magistrate Baja Shoman explained to Thomas that he has two prior convictions for firearms offenses, and as such could not receive a fine for his crime.
